Hilary Swank to Donate Payment From Chechen Birthday Party
Hilary Swank continues to do some major clean-up after being criticized for her appearance at the birthday party of an alleged human rights violator. On Oct. 5, Swank, along with actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, attended Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov's party in exchange for an unknown fee (Van Damme's was allegedly $1 million). Now, after apologizing on Thursday, the Oscar-winning actress has decided to donate the money she received from her appearance to various charities. Swank said she was originally unaware of Kadyrov's alleged participation in execution and torture, a claim that the Human Rights Foundation called "laughable." According to TheWrap, the organization's COO said Swank's apology was "weak, especially since the Human Rights Foundation sent a warning directly to Swank through her manager on Sept. 26." No word on how the foundation feels about Swank's donation.
